Botia & Loaches

Botia and loaches are diverse bottom-dwelling fish known for their active behavior, elongated bodies and constant exploration of the substrate, caves and aquarium decorations. Many species are social and are best kept in groups, where they can display their natural behavior more confidently.

Botia are particularly active and curious, often exploring every part of the lower levels of the aquarium and quickly responding to food and movement around them. Other loaches may be more secretive, spending much of their time among rocks, roots and substrate or burying themselves when they feel threatened.

Adult size, temperament and care requirements vary considerably between species. When choosing Botia or other loaches, consider the available swimming space, suitable substrate, hiding places, recommended group size and compatibility with other aquarium inhabitants.
