Bettas

Bettas (Betta splendens) are among the most striking freshwater labyrinth fish, known for their vivid colors, impressive fins and distinctive behavior. Thanks to their labyrinth organ, they can breathe atmospheric air from the water surface, which is a natural adaptation of the species.

A wide range of selectively bred forms is available, including Half Moon, Crowntail, Dumbo and other varieties with different fin shapes and characteristics. Males are generally more brightly colored and have larger, more developed fins, while females are usually more compact and have shorter fins.

Bettas prefer calm water, plants, hiding places and easy access to the water surface. Male bettas should not be kept together, while community tank mates must be chosen carefully. Aggressive, highly active or fin-nipping fish are not suitable companions.
