Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus)

Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus) is a large, intelligent and highly distinctive South American cichlid, known for its robust body, expressive behaviour and variety of color patterns. It reaches approximately 25-35 cm and requires a spacious aquarium with powerful filtration, stable water conditions, hiding places and plenty of open swimming space. It can be kept with other large and robust fish, but is not a good choice for small tank mates, as they may be regarded as prey.
