Description

This product consists of natural plant materials designed for shrimp and Betta fish.
Catappa leaves, which come from Indian almond trees (Terminalia catappa), help recreate the natural environment for Bettas, shrimp, and other aquarium inhabitants. When added to the aquarium, they release tannins and other organic compounds that help maintain a lower pH and subtly tint the water. These conditions mimic habitats with acidic water and abundant leaf litter. As the Catappa leaves decompose, beneficial microorganisms grow on their surfaces, creating a natural food source for shrimp, snails, and newly hatched fish.

Directions for use:
Add 1–2 leaves per 20 liters (approximately 5.3 US gallons) of aquarium water. Remove and replace monthly or as desired. Catappa leaves may float initially but will sink after 2–3 days.
To make an extract, boil three grams (approximately two and a half leaves) in 1 liter of water for ten minutes or until the desired color is achieved. Allow the extract to cool to aquarium temperature and pour it directly into the tank. When using the extract for the first time, add it gradually over 2 to 3 days and monitor the tank to ensure the pH remains within the appropriate range for the aquarium’s inhabitants.
Chemical filter media such as activated carbon may remove the beneficial compounds released by Catappa leaves.
