SeaChem Catappa Tea Bags

Catappa Tea Bags, made from the leaves of the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa), help create a natural environment for Betta fish, shrimp, and other aquarium inhabitants. They contain tannins and other organic compounds that support maintaining lower pH levels and give the water a gentle brown tint, simulating the natural conditions of habitats with acidic water and abundant leaf litter. Not intended for human consumption.

Directions for Use:

Boil one tea bag in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes or until the desired color of extract is achieved. Let it cool to aquarium temperature, then pour the needed amount directly into the aquarium or mix it with prepared water for water changes.

When using the extract for the first time, add it gradually over 2–3 days and monitor pH levels to ensure they remain within a suitable range for the tank inhabitants.

Alternatively: Add 1 tea bag per 40 liters (10 US gallons) of aquarium water to an external filter for a time-release effect. Monitor the pH and remove the tea bags once the desired level or tinting of the water is achieved.

Chemical filtration media such as activated carbon may remove the beneficial compounds released by Catappa tea bags.
