SeaChem Onyx Sand™ is a natural, dark gray sand that perfectly complements and enhances the appearance of the aquarium. It is suitable for planted aquariums as well as those with cichlids. It provides not only iron but also other minerals, and helps maintain KH levels. Rich in carbonates, SeaChem Onyx Sand supports all plants that can extract bicarbonates. Although it is designed for planted aquariums, it can be used in any environment. Onyx Sand is most effective when used alone, but it can also be mixed with other substrates. There is no need to mix it with laterite. It is not chemically treated, but has a slight buffering capacity that can raise the pH of the water by 0.1-0.5 pH units (depending on the source water characteristics). Rinse lightly before use to remove any potential dust. Light cloudiness in the water is normal and will clear up quickly (2-12 hours). To reduce the clearing time, use Seachem Clarity in combination with mechanical filtration (sponge/filter floss).
